Group Therapy sessions are run by two Psychologists from MindMovers. All groups are 8 weeks in length and run for one hour every week. Each group session attracts a medicare rebate and private health fund rebate. See below for our upcoming groups.
Term 3 Groups
Commencing July, 2020Building Resilient Kids
Ages: 9-12
Location: Double Bay Practice
This group aims to help kids:
- Develop emotional awareness
- Learn to integrate their positive and negative experiences
- Learn social skills: find ways to manage interpersonal conflict as well as how to stay present, grounded and calm in high pressure stressful contexts
- Learn to identify and let go of unhelpful thought, emotion and action patterns
- Develop tools to build self-esteem and self-efficacy
- Learn to derive happiness from the inside
- Increase resiliency for coping with difficult life circumstances
- Feel confident about their own abilities
- Problem solve and manage peer group conflict
Calm Kids
Ages: 4-6, 6-8
Location: Double Bay Practice
Is your child struggling with their emotions at home and with their peers?
This group aims to help kids:
- Develop tools to build assertiveness, reduce conflict and increase their inner strength
- Increase their confidence and learn skills on how to manage and understand their emotions
- Incorporate components of mindfulness, games and art therapy to teach children how to manage big emotions and reactions
- Learn how to cultivate and create space to think before reacting and how to take control of their thoughts, feelings and actions
The Art of Friends
Ages: 9-12
Location: Double Bay Practice
Does your child struggle with relationships or to understand social situations?
This group aims to help young people:
- Develop tools to build assertiveness and confidence
- Learn skills on making and keeping friends
- Develop emotional awareness in themselves and others
- Learn to manage their behaviour
- Increase resiliency for coping with interpersonal conflict and difficult friendships
Organisation & Study Skills for Teens
Ages: 12+
Location: Double Bay Practice
These evidence-based techniques will make your child feel more confident and capable of completing their tasks without unnecessary stress and anxiety. This group aims to help young people with:
- Increasing motivation
- Goal setting
- Study techniques
- Enhancing productivity
- Reducing distractions and procrastination
- Stress and anxiety management
Tools for Teens
Ages: 12+
Location: Double Bay Practice
Feeling overwhelmed by school? Finding it hard to manage emotions? Easily distracted?
This group aims to help young people:
- Develop emotional awareness
- Learn to integrate their positive and negative experiences
- Learn management strategies for staying present, grounded and calm in high pressure stressful contexts
- Learn to control, train and focus their attention
- Sit with and accept strong emotions
- Learn to identify and let go of unhelpful thought, emotion and action patterns
